Do you need a license to be a property manager in Montana?
Montana has a separate property manager license: managing property for others needs the property Manager license, issued by the Montana Department of Labor & Industry, Property Management Program. Leasing apartments for others generally needs a license too. The exact wording, with any exceptions, is below.
| Managing property for others | "A person may not practice as a property manager unless actively licensed under Title 37, chapter 1, and this part." official source |
|---|---|
| On-site and employee exemptions | ""Property manager" means an individual who engages in the business of leasing, renting, subleasing, or other transfer of possession of real estate located in this state without transfer of the title to the property." "a person employed by the owner of the real estate if that person's property management duties are incidental to the person's other employment-related duties" "a person employed on a salaried basis by only one person" "a person who receives reduced rent or salary, unless that person holds signatory authority on the trust account" official source |
